UNIVERSITY CENTER – Facing elimination, Ferris must find a way to regain the fire and confidence it had earlier this season when it looked and played every bit like a team capable of winning just about anything in its path.
The talent to accomplish lofty goals remains, but the team has to regain its confidence – its swagger. That must be the response for the Bulldogs who dropped a 3-0 decision to Northern Kentucky in the opening round of the 2009 NCAA Division II Midwest Sub Regional Tournament in University Center.
“When I talked to them after the game I told them ‘inspire yourself’ and that’s what they’re going to have to do,” Ferris head coach Keri Becker said as the team dropped to 33-9 following the regional-opening loss to NKU. “This team has to reach back in itself and find that inspiration, that hunger and that desire to play the way we know we’re capable of playing. We need to get back to the team we were earlier in the season.”
The Bulldogs are going to have to rediscover that mentality quick. From here on out, Ferris knows it will be matched against good teams.
We will find out quick if Becker’s Bulldogs can rediscover their swagger in time to make a run in the regional tournament.
