BIG RAPPIDS – Ferris still stands prominently in the all-important NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Rankings.
The most recent rankings were released April 8 and head coach Keri Becker’s Ferris squad is in first place, but with a pack of teams in pursuit. The Bulldogs, with a veteran team, have performed as one would expect to claim the top spot in the region (even though there is a lot of softball left to be played).
Wayne State is second, Ashland is third, Saginaw Valley is seventh and Grand Valley is eighth for the balance of the GLIAC teams in the top eight positions. The Bulldogs still have games left against those teams as it plays Wayne twice, Ashland twice, Saginaw Valley two more times (they split the first time) and Grand Valley twice more (Ferris swept the first doubleheader).
Wayne and Ashland are playing great college softball and the Bulldogs have yet to play either of those teams. Saginaw Valley also is having another strong season and GVSU has proven to again be solid. This week, Ferris is on the road to face Grand Valley, Ashland and Tiffin in what will be the first long stretch of tough road games this season for the Bulldogs in GLIAC competition.
