BIG RAPIDS – Returning to Michigan might be a downer, considering the good weather typically associated with the early-season Florida trip.

However, returning to Michigan with a strong 12-2 record against good competition has Ferris home with tanned and smiling faces.

Highlighting the trip was success Ferris experienced against the regional competition it faced in the Sunshine State. The Bulldogs had two regional victories on day one against Northern Kentucky and Quincy. On day three, Ferris had two more regional wins over Southern Indiana and Indianapolis. On day five, in a rematch against Northern Kentucky, the Bulldogs suffered one of just two losses on the trip. All in all, Ferris was 4-1 against regional rivals.

Considering Ferris earned a regional championship last spring and advanced to the national championships, it is no big surprise Ferris has performed at a relatively high level thus far this season. The Bulldogs did what they had to do in their season-opening trip to Florida for a fantastic start to this season.

The Florida trip also showed the depth the Bulldogs have – almost across the board this spring. The Bulldogs are particularly strong and balanced in the circle. Coach Keri Becker used all five pitchers during the trip as Sarah Mueller was 4-1, Holly Bruntjens was 3-1, Shannon Roney was 3-0 and Kayle Stevenson was 2-0. As a staff, Ferris had a microscopic earned run average of 0.94. Opponents hit just .167 off the Bulldogs through the first 14 games.
