BLOG 23: Thoughts on the GLIAC Tournament

FSU Softball

BIG RAPIDS – Ferris has as good a chance as anyone to come out of this Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament holding the championship trophy it covets.

But, there are a lot of challengers out there eager to hold up a stop sign in front of the nationally-ranked Bulldogs (including some fellow nationally-ranked squads like Saginaw Valley and Wayne). On paper, four teams have a strong shot at winning the tournament – the top four teams in the league most of the season. Ashland, Ferris, Saginaw Valley and Wayne all feel good about their chances to win the league’s tournament (May 1-3) in Midland.

But, Grand Valley is sitting there as the fifth seed and possesses the ability to get hot and make a bit of a run if everything falls in place.

For Ferris, hitting is the key. When the Bulldogs are banging out long balls and stringing together hits, life can be pretty tough on their opponents.

Ferris has been idle for a while as weather canceled last weekend’s home doubleheaders against Saginaw Valley and Wayne.

As for their first-round opponent, the Bulldogs have a 3-1 record this season against Northwood and hopes to keep the good times rolling in Midland. That will not mean much when the tournament begins.

You can expect some tough competition all weekend.
