Between the Pipes with Keith Kinkaid - February 3rd, 2011

This is our sixth segment of 'Between the Pipes with Keith Kinkaid.' This past weekend Keith and the team swept both #1 Yale and Brown at home in two memorable victories. He is currently the 4th best goalie in the country statistically with a save percentage of .923 through 1,525 minutes of play. His current record in net is 17-7-2.

How were you personally and the team collectively able to defeat #1 Yale at home? What was your take on the electric atmosphere Messa Rink had that night? Do you think the fans and students in attendance made a difference?

I think we prepared real well for this game. We had six weeks to prepare after Yale handed it to us in their building. We wanted payback and that was our motivation. It was similar to how the Patriots wanted payback after the Jets beat them in week 2. The atmosphere was unreal and I don't think I have ever heard it as loud as it was Friday night. The fans were great and that helps our success at home which we thank all the fans for. They make it tough for any opponent to come into our building.

What were your thoughts heading into the Brown game? Did you feel emotionally drained from such a high the night before or were you ready to go back at it? What were the keys to the victory over Brown?

We knew Brown was not going to be an easy task. Great teams bring it back to back nights and that was our goal. Once we left the locker room Friday night, our focus was turned to Brown for Saturday. The keys were to stop their top line and stick to our game plan. They are a physical team so we needed to our hit them and get to their net.

How is the team preparing for two tough road games at #19 Princeton and Quinnipiac? Is there a change of mindset while playing on the road as opposed to playing at home?

Both games this weekend are really important both in our league and for the national rankings. Both teams are on hot streaks and we are looking to end them. We have to be road warriors in both buildings. It's not going to come easy to us so we need to grind it out and get traffic to the net and bang home any rebounds.

You're one point behind Yale and two points ahead of Friday night's opponent. It seemed like Yale completely lost all wind in their sails in their game against RPI. Tell me, is this the weekend the Union College Dutchmen overtake the top spot in the standings?

We don't have any control on how Yale does but one things for sure is that we are going to do our best to help our end of the spectrum. We know what we have to do Friday and Saturday night. We can't worry about the outcomes of other games and need to stay focus on our task at hand. It would be nice to see Union in that first seed at the end of the week for sure.

Who will win Superbowl XLV in Dallas this upcoming weekend? What will be the score? Who will be named the game's MVP?

Ithink the Steelers will win the Superbowl although I am not a fan of either of these teams. I think the score will be 24-20 and Mendenhall will get MVP. I'm more excited for the commercials than the two teams playing in the game.

Well there you have it folks, you've heard it from the man himself. Please leave your reviews in the comment box below. Enjoy this upcoming weekend's games- be sure to tune into live stream radio on Unionathletics.com to pick up the action. I myself will be traveling to NJ to see the boys play at #19 Princeton. Enjoy Superbowl XLV - GO PACKERS! And remember fans, you can find Keith Kinkaid on facebook at any time during the day. -JZolot
