I a wild and crazy game that saw but teams combine for 11 goals BU had the upper hand through most of the night. I thought that it was the best all round game that Bu had played all season.
The Terriers dominated the first period and only four minutes into the game Ross Gaudet found the back of the net. He got the perfect pas from Joe Pereira on the far post and slid the puck past Maine goalie, Scott Darling.
The Terriers dominated to most of the second period as well. Gaudet would score his second goal of the night, after he got a nice pass from Colby Cohen. Gaudet would then skate in and rip a shat from a bad angle. The shot seamed to fool Darling and it hit the in side of the post and went in.
Later in the second Maine would get a pair of goals to tie the game. The first came form Joey Diamond, when he jammed home a Kevin Swallows shot. Less than three minutes later Maine would tie the game when David deKastrozza poked a bouncing puck past a sprawling Kieran Millan. Earlier in the year this would have killed BU but this year, as parker points out did not.
“I think this team is to the point that they don’t get down when somebody scores on them,” said BU head coach Jack Parker. “The best part about the night is we had answers every time.”BU answer on the power play. Vinny Saponari, [picked up a rebound, from a Chris Connolly shot, then spun around and beat Darling to ive BU a 3-2 lead.
The Terrier were not don in the second, Nick Bonino would find twine, after making a Maine defenseman wonder where his jock when, did the same to Darling an BU had their two goal lead back.
Maine would answer though. Millan was forced to make some great saves but then Jeff Dimmen finaly beat him, once again slashing the lead to just one.
After that BU would take control of the third frame. Zach Cohen got the BU two goal lead back, when he jammed a rebound past Maine back up goalie Shawn Sirman. Less than a minute later the struggling Sirman wound let in perhaps the weakest goal in the history of college hockey. Colby Cohen got the puck off the face off and took a half hearted slapper that bounced and hit the post and went in.
BU was not done, David Warsofsky, who just came off the bench, teed up a slapper that found the top corner. Sirman was then down on the ice for several minutes after Zach Cohen incidentally kicked him in the head. It was believed that he suffered a concussion.
Maine would get one back, to make it 7-4 near the end of the third.
The two teams play again tonight. Game time 7:00
