It was nine months ago last night, in which the Terrier pulled off one of the biggest and unlikely comebacks in NCAA history. BU was down two goals with less than a minute left in the national championship game. Ya, I think you know the rest.
The photo is of Kevin Shattenkirk who had a goal and an assist and was also named the number one "star" of the game.
Things where not so fortunate last night when the Terriers fell to RPI 5-3. BU took a lot of penalties which caused them to have no legs when they needed them in the third.
BU found themselves in early penalty trouble in the first. This also lead to the Terriers first goal. Kevin Shattenkirk picked off a clearing pass and then gave it over to Chris Connolly. Connolly then made a nice backhanded pass over to Nick Bonino who roofed it off the crossbar and in. This was one of two short handed goals.
The Terrier lead did not last long. RPI's Brandon Pirri found the puck behind the Terrier net. He then brought it out in front where Angers Goulet slammed it home.
Yet again, the Terriers have the "lull" after an opponent has scored. BU found themselves down 2-1 just 19 seconds later. Bryan Brutlag won the face-off in the Terrier zone and then walked in on the BU net and beat Millan.
BU tied the game in the opening stages of the second period when Corey Trivino passed it over to freshman Max Nicastro who took a slapper that Zach Cohen tipped between his legs and beat Merriam.
Later in the second, Eric Gryba broke Freddy Meyers record for most penalty minutes as a Terrier when he was called for a ten minute misconduct. Gryba only needed five minutes to break the record.
While Gryba was serving his penalty, the Terrier's Kevin Shattenkirk and Ross Gaudet had a two on one in which Shattenkirk never passed it, but instead beat Merriman high glove side. This was the Terrier's second short handed goal of the game.
In the third, the Terriers took some costly penalties which lead to their undoing. The first of three RPI goals came off a 30 foot wrist shot that beat Millan glove side.
RPI got their second goal after Millan made a nice save on Christian Jensen's first shot. The Rensselaer D-man found the rebound in front and jammed it home.
RPI's Tyler Helfich added an empty net goal to salt the game a way.
