Last night the Terriers dropped their fourth straight game, this one coming against Merrimack College. It was the first time that Merrimack has beaten BU since 2004.
In the first, the Terriers had a 5-3 for a whole 2 minutes and could not score. This would be the story of the game. The Terriers did grab a 1-0 lead on a 5-4 power play when Wade Megan picked up a rebound in front of the net and buried it in the bottom left corner. This was Megan's first Collegiate goal. That would be the only lead of the night that the Terrier would have. With less than three minutes left in the period, Merrimack's Brandon Brodhag tied the game on a rebound that was sitting in front of Bu goaltender Kieran Millan. Brodhag got the rebound and then scored.
Jack Parker put it best "The second period was the beginning of the end for us". Parker also added "We stopped competing in the second". 54 seconds into the period the Warrior's Simon Demers Set up Stephane Da Costa with a perfect pass into the middle of the slot where Da Costa took a slap shot that beat Millan. Five minutes later Elliot Sheen created a play that lead to Matt Moulakelis jamming the puck past Millan. This made the score 3-1 Merrimack at the end of the second period.
The third period was where it just became hard to watch. Merrimack made it 4-1 and scored their first power play goal of the night. Joe Cucci was screening Millan and while that was happening, Fraser Alen slid it over to Kyle Bigos who then beat Millin who never got a look at the puck. Only twenty-two second later Elliott Sheen gave Merrimack a 5-1 lead, their biggest of the night.
After Sheen's goal, Terrier coach Jack Parker pulled Millan and put in Adam Kraus.
After Millan was pulled, things got very ugly. Colby Cohen (photo) and Matt Moulakelis each received 10 minute game misconducts for a fight that broke out with about 10 minutes left in the game. Both players will miss Saturday's game.
Vinny Saponari and the Terriers would get back one back on the power play.
Merrimack would get a sixth goal when Brandon Broghag poked the puck past Adam Kraus. This was Broghag's second goal of the game and the final Merrimack goal.
Before the end of the game, Cory Trivino scored his first goal of the year again on the power play. The goal would have been a highlight reel goal if the game was not so out of hand.
The two teams will go at it again, tonight at Agganis Arena.
