Ferris State Holds Steady At Sixth In The Region

BIG RAPIDS – Ferris State University’s softball destiny is not set at this point, but the picture is looking a lot brighter for the Bulldogs as reflected in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region Rankings.

With the latest regional rankings being released, the Bulldogs currently are ranked sixth in the region and in a solid position with the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament set to begin Friday in Midland at Emerson Park. The Bulldogs are 27-14 and have held steady at the No. 6 spot in the Great Lakes Region rankings behind new No. 1 Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, No. 2 Lewis, No. 3 Saginaw Valley State, No. 4 Wayne State and No. 5 Indianapolis. After Ferris, in the sixth spot, West Virginia Wesleyan has made the climb to the seventh-place spot while Southern Indiana is eighth.

Nothing is set in stone for the regional tournament and, as a result, Ferris would love nothing more than to have a strong performance at the GLIAC Tournament in Midland. That could go a long way toward strengthening Ferris’ case for a regional tournament bid.

The Bulldogs have been able to bounce back from an up-and-down experience in the season-opening trip to Florida to climb the rankings up to its current sixth-place spot.

Ferris, seeded second in the conference tournament, begins play in the event on Friday morning when it takes on seventh seed Mercyhurst in a 10 a.m. (EDT) game in Midland. The winner has a 4 p.m. showdown slated against the winner of No. 3 Saginaw Valley vs. No. 6 Northwood in the double-elimination tournament.
