Ferris Drops Two Games To No. 14 Saginaw Valley

BIG RAPIDS - The box scores for Wednesday afternoon's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference softball games show nine hits in two games for Ferris State University against No. 14 Saginaw Valley State University.

But, the Bulldogs of head coach Keri Becker had a hard time stringing together hits to put runs on the scoreboard against the visiting Cardinals and ultimately were swept by scores of 2-0 and 4-1 at the FSU Softball Field in the GLIAC openers for both teams. Throughout the game, Becker encouraged her team to be a little more selective at the plate, to wait on good pitches and then drive them to spots on the field. But, Ferris had a tough time stringing those hits together against Saginaw Valley's pitchers.

In the first game of the afternoon, the Bulldogs were held scoreless on four hits against SVSU pitcher Jade Fulton (7-1 on the season), who was superb with seven strikeouts and only one walk. Accounting for the Ferris hits were freshman left fielder Morgan Kramerich, junior shortstop Lynsay Weaver, sophomore third baseman Makenzi Peterson and senior second baseman Amanda Harrington.

In the circle, senior pitcher Kayle Stevenson took the loss for the Bulldogs as she dropped to 3-5 on the season. Stevenson threw all seven innings, allowed nine hits, two runs (both earned), walked one and struck out one. The run support was not there for Stevenson, who surrendered just the two runs (both of which were scored in the third inning).

In game two, the Bulldogs drew first blood as Rhea Flores picked up an RBI as she grounded out to score Kramerich (who reached on a single up the middle).

The Cardinals, however, responded with two runs in the bottom of the second and two more in the bottom of the fourth to take command of the game.

Freshman pitcher Dana Bowler took the loss for the Bulldogs as her record fell to 3-4 on the season. She threw six innings, allowed six hits, four runs (all earned), two walks, struck out three and was charged with two wild pitches. Kari Bowlby earned the win for SVSU as she improved to 6-0 on the season.

Again, the Bulldogs had trouble mustering run support. Ferris had five hits (three of which were from Kramerich, who had a solid afternoon). Flores and Peterson had the other two hits.

Ferris, now 9-9 on the season, hosts Lake Superior Sate University on Friday in a doubleheader with the first game to begin at 3:30 p.m.

Techsters win one and Broncos split a pair

Louisiana Tech got eight hits from eight different players Wednesday in Shreveport as the Lady Techsters beat Centenary 4-1 in non-conference action.Kylie Bassett homered in the third inning for the first run of the game and the Techsters pushed across three in the sixth to take command. Sara Offutt and Kendra Harmon hit back-to-back, run-scoring singles in the sixth inning and Bassett hit into a
Pac 10 play gets underway tomorrow, with each pair of geographic rivals playing each other in a three-game series (Washington and UCLA are treated as paired rivals, as Washington State and USC don't have teams).

Washington vs. UCLA is the marquee match-up, as the Huskies are a consensus No. 1 in the two major national polls, whereas the Bruins are a consensus No. 5. Arizona (No. 2/3) vs. ASU (No. 7/10) is also big, whereas Stanford-Cal, with each team on the outskirts of the Top Ten, isn't bad either.

The conference's weekly press release contains extensive information on the teams and match-ups.

One thing I noticed is that the Pac 10 apparently has changed its travel format. For example, all three ASU-Arizona games this weekend are listed as being in Tempe, whereas in previous years, there would be a 2/1 split between the two campuses. Similarly, all three Stanford-Cal games are in Palo Alto, and all three OSU-Oregon games are in Corvallis. I can understand avoiding a geographic split with UCLA and Washington, as the distance is hardly drivable, but the other changes seem harder to grasp. I posted a message on the discussion boards at Ultimate College Softball to see if anyone knew more about the Pac 10 travel situation. One person has suggested the changes reflect a cost-saving move.

'Dogs ride hot bats to sweep in Santa Barbara

After one weekend of Western Athletic Conference play, it may have been a bit of a surprise to see Fresno State listed atop the league hitting statistics, batting .330 as a team. But whatever got into the Bulldogs last weekend in Reno continued Tuesday in Santa Barbara.Fresno State pounded out 25 hits, and continued to swing some hot bats in a road sweep of UC Santa Barbara by scores of 5-4 and 9

Gryba signs with Ottawa

Senior, Eric Gyba has signed with the Ottawa Senators today. Gryba was the assistant captain of BU this past season and scored four goal and racked up 6 assists. All that adds up to be the best offensive season he  has ever had with BU. He was drafted by the Senators in the third round of the 2006 draft. Gryba will not play with the Sens right away, instead he will head to their AHL team, the Binghamton Senators. If he was to make the NHL Senators he would join UNH stand out Bobby Butler who left the Wildcats yesterday.

Gryba started out at BU and was a fan favorite from day one. He would go to the corner hard and there he would always hit some one. The refs did not like this and for the most part of his time at BU, he was a penalty waiting to happen. He would hit guys and because he was just taller they were shorter, he would get an elbowing call. Last year, playing with David Warsofsky seemed to really help and he has greatly improved his game over the course of his time at BU.

Bonino nets first goal
Last night BU's latest member to find the NHL, Nick Bonino, found the back of the net for the first time in his pro career. Bonino was on the top line for the Anaheim Ducks playing with 600 goal scorer, Teemu Selanne, who picked up the puck and handed Nick his puck.

Pollsters really need to start paying attention

In the never-ending world of poll irregularities and weirdness, the NFCA/USA Today and ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 polls out this morning certainly lived up to their low expectations. All season long, we've noted the bizarre rise and fall of Western Athletic Conference teams in the rankings without regard to actual results on the field. Last week, we noted the ridiculous fall for Hawai'i, which

News and notes around the WAC

The NCAA today released a memo to all coaches, athletic directors and senior women administrators at schools who play Division I softball. The memo further outlined the procedures by which umpires are calling illegal pitches in the 2010 season ... Senior Kathy Cox of Boise State and sophomore Stephanie Ricketts of Hawai'i have been named WAC Hitter and Pitcher of the Week by the conference for

Miami, BC, Wisconsin, and RIT all advance to Frozen Four

This was a crazy post-season for college hockey, but it's almost over as we are finally down to our final four teams. On Sunday, Miami advanced with a 3-2 double overtime win over Michigan in the Midwest Regional, while in the Northeast Regional Boston College topped Yale in a wild 9-7 affair. The day prior, Wisconsin defeated St. Cloud 5-3 in the West Regional, and underdog RIT shocked New Hampshire with a 6-2 win in Albany.

I'm pretty much a lock to win my family bracket challenge as I picked three of the four teams that are in the Frozen Four (I doubt anyone picked RIT to make it anyways). Even though I picked Miami to win the tournament, I will be rooting for the RIT Tigers. Not only are they the underdog and from New York, but they play in Atlantic Hockey and because of my ties to Army I have to support them.

I think the Miami-BC matchup will be the most interesting. The Red Hawks are the #1 team in the nation and have a lot of momentum heading to Detroit. They also have the hunger to win the whole thing after last year's devastating loss in the championship game to BU. The Eagles will are also a very good team. The thing that keeps me interested in them is how they have won the Hockey East tournament and the Northeast Regional. They won the HE Tourney 7-6 and won 9-7 to win the regional. That type of firepower by the offense could be lethal in the playoffs. Also, BC is a program that is used to playing late into the season and won the national championship two years ago.

It will also be very interesting to see if RIT can extend their Cinderella season even further against Wisconsin. I watched their regional games and they are very capable of winning the championship, especially if their goaltender Jared DeMichiel keeps up his stellar play.

All in all, I am as excited to go the Frozen Four as I am any year. This weekend is basically Christmas for me. I'm still going to say that Miami will win it all, but if they don't I'll pick BC. But who knows. Who though RIT would win a game in the tournament? (besides me of course!)

Fulton commits to Union

It was announced on March 24th that Tyson Fulton has committed to play at Union. He will be joining the Dutchmen in 2010 or 2011 according to Chris Heisenberg. Fulton was the captain for the Breck Mustangs this season, who won the Minnesota Class A State Championship for the second year in a row. In 25 regular season games Fulton registered 33 goals and 44 assists for 77 points, which was third in the state. For more on Fulton you can check out Minnesota Hockey Prospects.com, where they say he could be in the NHL some day. You can also read more about Fulton's signing on Minnesota Hockey Hub.com.

Walters to participate in Frozen Four Skills Challenge

Senior forward Jason Walters will be participating at the NCAA Frozen Four Skills Challenge at Ford Field in Detroit Michigan on April 9th. He was originally selected as an alternate, but will now be replacing Boston College's Ben Smith who will be playing against Miami the day prior. The last Dutchmen to play in the skills competition was Jason Mrazek two years ago, which did not turn out too well for him. We all remember Air Force's Eric Ehn incredible shootout move which beat Mrazek.

For more on Walters and the Skills Challenge check out Union Athletics.com.

I'm excited that I'll actually have someone to cheer for in Detroit this year.

Red Hawks and Eagles punch their tickets to Detroit

Finally, a day in which there were no upsets but still drama-packed. Number one ranked and the tournament's overall number one seed Miami Red Hawks beat Michigan 3-2 in double overtime. There were many chances for both teams to end this game. Michigan had a goal called back after the ref said that he blew the play dead before the puck was in the back of the net. Michigan's Matt Rust hit the cross bar with about 12 minutes left in the first overtime. Miami's net minder, Conner Knapp, shut out Michigan from the second frame on, recording 55 saves. Finally, in the start of the second overtime, the Red Hawk's Alden Hirschfeld potted the game winner, beating goaltender Shawn Hunwick blocker side.

Back in Worcester, Boston College and Yale played one of the crazier games in NCAA tournament history. In total, 16 goals where scored between the two schools, including seven in the second period alone. At one point in the second, the Eagles lead the Bulldogs 6-2. Yale came back and before the end of the second had managed to cut the BC lead to 6-4. BC would again take control of the start of the third. They would jump the score all the way up 9-4 only to have the pesky Bulldogs come back and make it 9-7, the final score.

Miami(OH) and Boston College will tangle in the national semi finals in Detroit, April 8th.

Catching up with BU
2010 recruit, Charlie Coyle score two goal in the Kings 9-2 win over the Walpole Express in the USA Hockey Tier III Championships

Nick Bonino played in his first NHL hockey game a couple of nights ago. He played 13 minutes and picked up a trip to the sin bin. He is now the fifth member of the Terriers National Championship team to make the NHL, joining Colin Wilson, Matt Gilroy, Brandon Yip, and John McCarthy.

South Lyon's Thomas picks Air Force

The Topeka RoadRunners have announced that forward Tony Thomas has committed to the Air Force Academy for next season.

Thomas, a 19-year-old from South Lyon, played in all 58 regular-season games for the NAHL South Division champions, one of only three RoadRunners to do so. He finished the regular season with 20 goals and 47 points to go along with a plus-20 rating.

"Tony has met and exceeded every character standard we expect of a RoadRunner,” said RoadRunners head coach Scott Langer. “Air Force is not only getting a solid player with a very good hockey IQ, but an even better young man."

Thomas is the 12th current NAHL player to commit to Air Force.

“I’ve always held the staff at Air Force in very high regard,” Langer added. “They did a great job recruiting Tony and I know it work out well for everyone."

1. Tahun 1891 : Prof. Dr. James A. Naismith menemukan permainan Bola Basket
2. Tahun 1892 : Untuk pertama kali Naismith memperkenalkan permainan Bola Basket kepada masyarakat (Amerika)
3. Tahun 1894 : Prof. Dr. James A. Naismith dan Dr. Luther Gullick untuk pertama kali mengeluarkan peraturan permainan resmi.
5. Tahun 1913 : Untuk pertama kali diadakan Kejuaraan Bola Basket Far Eastern. Pada kesempatan tersebut regu Phillipina mengalahkan Cina.
6. Tahun 1918 : Tentara pendudukan Amerika dan anggota YMCA memperkenalkan permainan Bola Basket di banyak negara Eropa.
7. Tahun 1919 : Dalam Olympiade Militer di Joinville, permainan Bola Basket termasuk salah satu cabang olahraga yang dipertandingkan.
8. Tahun 1932 : Untuk pertama kali diadakan Kongres Bola Basket bertempat di Jenewa Swiss. Para peserta yang hadir adalah : Argentina, Cekoslowakia, Yunani, Italia, Portugal, Rumania dan Swiss. Keputusan penting yang dihasilkan adalah terbentuknya Federasi Bola Basket Internasional - Federation International de Basketball (FIBA)
9. Tahun 1933 : Untuk pertama kali diselnggarakan kejuaraan Dunia Bola Basket Mahasiswa di kota Turin - Italia.
10. Tahun 1935 : Dalam Kongres Komite Olympiade Internasional, Bola Basket diterima sebagai salah satu nomor pertandingan Olympiade.
11. Tahun 1936 : Untuk pertama kali Bola Basket dipertandingkan dalam Olympiade Berlin. Dua puluh dua negara ikut serta. Juaranya adalah USA, Kanada dan Meksiko.
12. Tahun 1939 : Prof. Dr. James A. Naismith meninggal dunia.
Mengenal Permainan Bola Basket
2. Perlengkapan Teknik
2.1. Untuk pencatatan waktu diperlukan sedikitnya 2 buah stopwatch, satu untuk pencatat waktu dan satu lagi untuk time out.
2.2. Alat untuk mengukur waktu 30 detik
2.3. Kertas score (Scoring Book) untuk mencatat/merekam pertandingan.
Panjang jala 40 cm.

HOUSTON - LA Lakers melakukan comeback gemilang setelah menelan kekalahan memalukan atas Oklahoma City, Sabtu kemarin.

♥ Mexican Beef Tacos~~ ♥

hi hi hii^^
hufft it's been a week since I posted or even blogwalking around. :(
I guess I missed a lot this week.. hahaa.
I've been busy with uni's & tasks.. etcetera~~ boring stuffs!

sooo the only fun thing I did this recent week was probaby the time when I'm cooking~~
I love eating & I love cooking^^ !!
well, I'm still in a process of learning, not a skillful master chef yet. lol.
most of the food I cook are Indonesian Food, but I'd loveee to learn other recipes as well such japanese food, korean food, mexican food, italian food, etc. yumm yuumm~~

so this week I attempt to cook some mexican tacos^^ hahaa.
I figured it should be easy for a beginner like me.
here's the attempt..

- stir-fry the mince meat & onions in approriate portions
- stir-fry them until the mince meat slightly cooked

- drained off the oils, then stir-fry them again. this time add 1/4 cup of water
- add the taco spice mix powder, salts, cutted chillies & stir-fry until they cooked and the water reduces

- prepare them on the plate. this is the finish result of the mince meat^^

----

- prepared the taco shell. the left pic is the soft shell, the right one is the crispy shell. I prefer the soft one though
- heat them with the microwave or oven. heat for 5 minutes or until hot, but not browned

- prepared the fillings & the dip
* sliced tomatoes
* sliced lettuce
* sliced fresh onions
* cheese
*salsa
* sour cream dip
* guacamole dip

& then add the beef and style them with your own taste^^
this is my taco style.. hehee~ fresh veggies, lots of fresh onions, more dips, & beef!!

stay tuned for more of my cooking attempt^^
